Novosibirsk State Technical University is one of the largest universities in Siberia. It was established in 1950 as Novosibirsk Electric Technical Institute (NETI); and in 1992 it was renamed the Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU).

The founder of the Novosibirsk State Technical University is the Russian Federation.

Functions and powers of the founder of NSTU are performed by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

Novosibirsk State Technical University offers about 120 programs of study in technical, economic, and humanitarian fields at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, Ph. D., and post-doctoral levels. Approximately 3,000 faculty members and employees work at the university, and the number of enrolled students exceeds 25 thousand.

Novosibirsk State Technical University has 17 faculties and institutes, and more than 100 research and educational laboratories and centers also operate at the university. These research centers specialize in such fields as laser and plasma technologies, electronic microscopy, material science and nanotechnologies, electrotechnologies and information protection, among others.

The university has at its disposal a library which is one of the largest in the region, as well as its own publishing house.

The campus of Novosibirsk State Technical University contains 8 academic buildings, 8 halls of residence for graduate, post-graduate, and international students; a cultural center, a sports palace, a ski depot, a sports center, a swimming pool, a clinic, summer camps on the Ob River and in Gorny Altay, and 2 child care centers.

The university collaborates with the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, AkademgorodokTechnopark, Russian and foreign universities and innovative companies, such as Siemens, D-Link, Cisco, National Instruments, Sun Microsystems, Deckel-Maho-Gildemeister, KjellbergFinsterwalde.

NSTU is one of the leading universities in Russia; its innovation projects related to engineering education and innovative infrastructure are supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia. In 2014 NSTU was awarded 5 Stars by QS Stars university ranking for innovation and 3 Stars for overall performance.
