Agape English Language Institute, Greenville

Agape English Language Institute for Internationals (AELI, or Agape) is a private English as a second language (ESL) school in South Carolina, with campuses in Greenville and Columbia. It was incorporated in 1989 by Dr. Rajarathnam S. Aluri, who had come to the United States as an international student. Classes in Greenville began in June 1998, and since August 2004 the Greenville programme has been authorised to issue its own I-20 forms to students coming from abroad.

Agape teaches intensive English in nine-week sessions that start several times a year, for example in October 2026 and January 2027. All teachers hold an advanced degree and have TESOL experience. The programmes are:

  • Full-time programme, required for F-1 student visa holders
  • Part-time programme with one or two core classes, for students without an F-1 visa
  • Private tutoring

Students must be at least 14 years old when classes start. Agape can place students with an American host family that provides meals and transport to and from school, but the number of homestays is very limited and a place cannot be guaranteed; full-time students have priority.
