American University of Afghanistan

The American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) is a non-profit, private and independent university that has offered a liberal arts education to Afghan women and men for about 20 years. In response to the restrictions on education for women in Afghanistan, it has turned itself into a virtual university: lectures are live and online, class sizes are small, and students receive one-to-one support from professors and advisors. The university reports more than 1,000 enrolled students, 75% of them women, and 90% of its students live in Afghanistan.

Programmes

Undergraduate study at AUAF consists of the Academic Preparation Program (APP), with which admitted students begin, followed by associate (AA) and bachelor's (BA) programmes. Teaching is online and in English; a full undergraduate course load is 15 credits per semester.

AUAF offers a Master in Business Administration (MBA). The programme lasts two years (four semesters) with a standard load of 9 credits per semester, 36 credits in total. Intakes start in spring and in fall; applications for the Spring 2027 intake opened on 17 September 2026.

Applicants complete the AUAF online application form; the Office of Admissions may then ask for further documents by email. There is no application fee.
