ArtCenter College of Design is an art and design college in Pasadena, in the Los Angeles area of California (United States). It has two campuses, Hillside and South, plus ArtCenter at the Petersen, and teaches undergraduate and graduate degrees in small studio classes led by practising artists and designers.

Undergraduate degrees include:

  • Entertainment Design, Illustration and Fine Art
  • Film and Photography and Imaging
  • Graphic Design and Interaction Design
  • Product Design and Spatial Experience Design
  • Transportation Design

Graduate programmes include Art, Brand Design and Strategy, Film, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interaction Design and Media Design Practices. Students can take studios abroad and Designmatters projects with a social focus. The portfolio is the most important part of the application, and international applicants need an English test. The college has no on-campus housing; it helps students find off-campus accommodation and offers homestays through Universal Student Housing. According to the college, 70% of undergraduates receive financial aid.

Admission Requirements

  • Online application with a non-refundable $50 fee
  • Transcripts from all schools and colleges attended; international transcripts with an English translation
  • Portfolio for the chosen major (the most important element), plus a video essay for some majors
  • One short-answer essay and two essays
  • English test for applicants not educated in English
  • Priority application date for Spring 2027 (participating majors): 1 October 2026

Language Requirements

Undergraduate applicants not educated in English need TOEFL iBT 4 (on the 1-6 scale in use from 21 January 2026), IELTS Academic 6.5 or Duolingo 115. Scores must be less than two years old and sent directly by the testing service.

Fees

Tuition for Fall 2026 to Summer 2027: US$28,681 per term for undergraduate programmes and US$30,312 per term for graduate programmes (full-time, 12-19 units per term).

Housing

ArtCenter has no on-campus housing. The Center for the Student Experience helps students find off-campus options in Pasadena and Los Angeles (shared flats and houses, studios, private rooms) and roommates through a Discord community. Homestays with local hosts are available through Universal Student Housing.
