Bridgewater State University (BSU) is a public university in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, on a 270-acre campus not far from Boston and Providence. Founded in 1840 as a school for teachers, it has 10,349 undergraduate and graduate students and awards about 2,500 degrees and certificates a year.
BSU offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programmes, including more than 60 graduate, certificate and licensure programmes in fields such as accounting, business (MBA), computer science, criminal justice, cybersecurity, education, psychology, public administration and social work. It recently launched engineering programmes in photonics and optical engineering, and offers more than 250 study abroad programmes.
International students can apply to all undergraduate programmes, to graduate programmes, or come for a semester or a year on an exchange or partnership programme. About 100 international students from more than 20 countries attend BSU, supported by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services; ESL courses are offered on a limited basis. Admitted non-Massachusetts residents receive the Horace Mann Scholarship of US$5,000 a year.

BSU recommends starting the application at least eight months before the intended semester. International undergraduate applicants submit:
- Online application with essay and a US$50 application fee
- Official transcripts sent by the issuing institution, or certified copies of examination certificates, with English translations
- An external credit evaluation (WES or CED) if seeking credit for non-US college studies
- English test results (unless studies were entirely in English)
- Confidential Affidavit of Financial Support with a bank statement showing funds in US dollars for the first year
- TOEFL: 61 (tests before 21 January 2026) or 4 (tests after 21 January 2026)

Waived for applicants with 30 semester hours in the US and a C- or better in EN 101 and EN 102.
2026-27 academic year: undergraduate tuition and fees for non-Massachusetts residents are US$18,930 a year (Massachusetts residents US$12,790). Admitted non-Massachusetts residents receive the Horace Mann Scholarship of US$5,000 a year. Graduate tuition and fees are US$559.75 per credit hour (about US$1,679.25 for a typical 3-credit course). Charges are subject to change by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education.
Residence halls offer gender-inclusive housing and residential learning communities. 2026-27 annual room rates (meal plans not included) range from US$8,981 (Woodward Hall) to US$10,792 (Weygand Hall) for a standard room, and up to US$12,613 for a single room; Great Hills Apartments cost US$12,327. Additional semester fees apply (for example a US$196 ResNet fee).
