Butler Montessori was formed in 1974 by Sister Mary Giuseppe, R.S.M. of the Sisters of Mercy. The school is a non-profit organization and is state certified by the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Academic Schools. The institution receives children of all backgrounds and races from the age of three through kindergarten. Butler Montessori School follows the Montessori philosophy that in order for the child to unfold their inner talents, physical and spiritual powers, they need to develop in their own pace in a noncompetitive atmosphere. The Montessori method focuses on Motor and Sensory Education, as well as Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Music, and Art.
