California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona, CPP) is a public university in Pomona, in Southern California (United States), and one of the 23 campuses of the California State University (CSU) system. It is one of three polytechnic universities in California and bases its teaching on a hands-on, learn-by-doing approach. It has 27,196 students, including hundreds of international students from more than 30 countries.

CPP offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programmes in these areas:

The campus runs initiatives in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and geographic information systems, and has more than 300 student clubs. International undergraduates apply through Cal State Apply and must choose a major when applying. The Cal Poly English Language Institute (CPELI) offers English courses, and completing its level five waives the English test for undergraduates. Housing options on campus include residence halls, suites, apartments and themed communities.

Admission Requirements

  • Apply online through Cal State Apply and declare a major; non-refundable application fee of $70
  • Filing period for Fall 2027: 1 August to 30 November (until 1 March for non-impacted majors); for Spring 2027: 1 July to 31 August (transfers only)
  • Applicants educated abroad send a copy of their transcripts
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 for non-California residents; SAT/ACT are not used
  • Proof of English proficiency

Language Requirements

  • TOEFL iBT: 71 (old scale) or 4 (new scale from 21 January 2026)
  • IELTS: 6.0
  • Duolingo English Test: 95

The test is waived after at least three years of full-time secondary school in English, or after passing level five of the Cal Poly English Language Institute (undergraduates).
