California State University Channel Islands (Cal State Channel Islands, CSUCI) is a public university in Camarillo, Ventura County, California, midway between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. Established in 2002, it is the youngest campus of the California State University system and runs a field research station on Santa Rosa Island in Channel Islands National Park. It reports a student-faculty ratio of 18:1.

CSUCI offers Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts programmes for first-year and transfer students; nursing programmes are not available to international students. For international graduate students it offers an MS in Computer Science, an MBA, an MS in Biotechnology & Bioinformatics and a dual MS Biotechnology/MBA, taught as professional evening programmes. Exchange and semester-abroad students are also welcomed.

International undergraduates apply through Cal State Apply (US$70 fee) with a 2.5 GPA and an English test score. Tuition for international undergraduates is about US$22,100 per year for Fall 2026/Spring 2027. More than 1,000 students live on campus in four villages, one of which houses international, transfer and graduate students; first-year international students must live on campus.

Admission Requirements

  • Application through Cal State Apply, US$70 fee
  • First-year applicants: GPA of 2.5 (4.0 scale) in grades 10-12; transfer applicants: GPA of 2.0 in college coursework (plus 2.5 in high school for lower-division transfers)
  • English language proficiency
  • Transcripts uploaded with the application; official transcripts after admission
  • For the I-20: financial affidavit and bank statement showing US$44,100, passport copy and orientation fee (US$215 for first-year students)

Deadlines: Fall 2026, 1 October 2025 to 4 May 2026; Spring 2027, 1 July to 31 August 2026. Graduate applicants need a bachelor's-equivalent degree with a minimum 2.75 GPA, a statement of purpose, CV and two recommendation letters.

Language Requirements

Undergraduate minimums: TOEFL iBT 61, IELTS 6.0, PTE 46 or Duolingo 95. Graduate minimums: TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 6.5, PTE 56 or Duolingo 105. Students who attended and graduated from three years of high school in the U.S. or listed English-speaking countries are exempt.

Fees

International undergraduates, Fall 2026/Spring 2027: about US$22,100 per year (30 units per year), i.e. US$471 per unit plus California resident tuition and fees; payment plans of three instalments per semester. Graduate programmes for international students: MBA and MS Computer Science US$635 per unit, MS Biotechnology & Bioinformatics US$875 per unit, plus US$104 per unit. The CSU has approved yearly tuition increases until 2028.

Housing

  • Santa Rosa Village: pod-style, about 350 first-year students
  • Santa Cruz Village: suite-style, mainly sophomores
  • Anacapa Village: 87 four-bedroom apartments for upper-level, transfer, graduate and international students
  • Town Center: apartments for about 100 upper-level and graduate students

More than 1,000 students live on campus. Housing is guaranteed for incoming first-year and transfer students who apply by the priority deadline; first-year international students must live on campus.
