California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is a university of the California State University (CSU) system, on a 353-acre campus in Northridge, in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, California. It began in 1956 as a branch campus and became an independent college on 1 July 1958, the founding date of the present university; it took its current name in 1972. In fall 2024 it had 36,848 students. CSUN is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), and it states that it has the largest community of Deaf and hard-of-hearing college students on the West Coast.

International students apply through Cal State Apply, the CSU's common application, with support from the Office of International Admissions. Depending on the programme, applicants submit TOEFL or other English test results, a financial affidavit and bank statement, translated transcripts and a copy of their passport. On-campus housing offers about 3,500 beds in shared rooms in the Park Apartments and Suites, within walking distance of campus.

The most popular majors are Psychology, Radio Television Broadcast and Computer Science.
CSUN offers 109 master's degree programmes (fall 2024), as well as doctorates, credentials and certificates. Admission requirements, supplementary materials and deadlines vary by programme, and applications are made through Cal State Apply. The Tseng College of Graduate, International and Midcareer Education runs programmes for international learners and working professionals.
International first-year applicants (F-1 or J-1 visa) apply through Cal State Apply and need a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or a B average); CSUN converts international grades. Required materials:
- Official secondary-school records in the original language, with proof of completion
- Official English translations of all academic records
- TOEFL or another accepted English test
- Affidavit of Financial Support and bank statement
- Copy of the passport photo page
- US$70 application fee
Minimum English scores for undergraduate applicants:
- TOEFL iBT: 61 (old format) or 3.5 (new format); paper-based 500

TOEFL ITP is not accepted. No test is needed after three or more years at a secondary school taught in English in a qualifying country.
2026-27 academic year: basic undergraduate tuition and fees are US$8,328 a year. Non-resident students, including international students, also pay non-resident tuition of US$471 per unit. For a typical load of 30 units a year this is US$14,130, giving a combined total of US$22,458 for tuition and mandatory fees. Fees may change without notice.
Deadlines for international first-year applicants:
- Spring 2027 intake: applications 1 July to 31 October; documents by 15 November
- Fall 2027 intake: applications 1 August to 15 May; documents by 15 June
International students are not eligible for US federal or state student aid. CSUN institutional scholarships are applied for online through myMatadorScholarships, and several colleges and departments offer their own scholarships. The California State University Foundation also offers donor-funded scholarships, and the university lists external scholarship opportunities.
CSUN Student Housing has about 3,500 beds in the Park Apartments and Suites, within walking distance of campus. Only shared-occupancy rooms are offered, and a meal plan is available. For the 2026-27 academic year Student Housing runs a waitlist, which students join free of charge through the Student Housing Portal.
