Chapman University is a private university in Orange, California (United States), in Orange County, founded in 1861 as Hesperian College. Its main campus is in Orange, and the Rinker Health Science Campus is in Irvine. It is an R2 research institution with a 12:1 student-faculty ratio, and according to the university U.S. News & World Report ranks it among the top 100 national universities.
Chapman offers more than 120 undergraduate and 40 graduate areas of study across colleges and schools such as:

- Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences

About 5% of students are international, from more than 80 countries, and 98% of students take part in internships, research or community engagement. Admission is test-optional; non-native speakers need proof of English, such as IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 80 (4.5 for tests from 21 January 2026), and there is no conditional English admission. All admitted students are reviewed automatically for merit scholarships, and limited need-based aid of up to US$15,000 a year is available to international students.

Chapman offers more than 40 in-person graduate and credential programmes, as well as law studies, and an Executive MBA among its business programmes. Costs for graduate and law students depend on the programme and credit load.
Applicants who are not US citizens or permanent residents apply as international students, normally studying on an F-1 visa. Key points:
- Test-optional admission for most applicants; AP, IB and Cambridge A-Level exams can earn advanced standing credit
- Official transcripts sent directly by the issuing institution, with certified word-for-word English translations if needed
- Proof of English proficiency for non-native speakers
- Application fee waivers available under Common App guidelines
- Financial verification of the estimated annual cost before the I-20 is issued; Chapman is a need-aware institution
International transfer applicants from the US and abroad are accepted. After admission and the enrolment deposit, the I-20 is issued electronically.
Non-native English speakers must meet these undergraduate minimums:
- TOEFL: 4.5 for tests from 21 January 2026 (80 with balanced sub-scores for earlier tests)
- IELTS: 6.5 with balanced sub-scores
- Duolingo English Test: 120
- SAT English: 600 or ACT English: 24
Students in Cambridge, IB or American-pattern curricula can receive a waiver. Chapman does not offer conditional admission for English.
International students are eligible for merit and need-based scholarships. All admitted students are reviewed automatically for merit awards, which are based mainly on high school results and the overall strength of the application; no separate application is needed. Chapman also offers limited need-based aid of up to US$15,000 a year for international applicants, and individual departments award further scholarships.
