EABH - The American School of Belo Horizonte

The American School of Belo Horizonte (Escola Americana de Belo Horizonte, EABH) is an independent, non-profit school in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, serving students from pre-kindergarten to grade 12 in a full-day programme. It has operated since 1956 and teaches primarily in English. According to the school, it is the only IB World School in Minas Gerais.

EABH combines the American and Brazilian curricula. It is accredited by Cognia and the Brazilian Ministry of Education, is authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organization and the College Board, and issues an American high school diploma. The school is organised in four sections:

  • Early Childhood (ages 4-5)
  • Elementary School (ages 6-10)
  • Middle School (ages 11-13)
  • High School (ages 14-17), with an IB and Advanced Program curriculum

A Brazilian Program based on the national curriculum (BNCC) covers Portuguese, Brazilian history and geography from early childhood through high school. The school is also a test centre for Cambridge Assessment Admissions and a member of the Association of American Schools in Brazil (AASB). Activities outside class include sports, the arts, leadership and community service. Admissions enquiries go to the admissions office by email or WhatsApp.
