El Ardal is a private "active" school for early childhood and primary education in Fuente del Fresno, in the Madrid region (Senda del Ardal 4). The school states almost 30 years of experience in early childhood education and 10 years in primary. It occupies a house converted into a school on an estate of about 12,000 m² of green space with plants and animals, and children spend much of the day outdoors.
Teaching follows a child-centred approach based on Carl Rogers and combines several active methodologies, while the curriculum is aligned with the objectives and key competences of the Spanish education law (LOMLOE). Teaching is in Spanish, with daily contact with English through play and everyday situations; sign language is also used in early childhood.
- Early childhood education in mixed-age groups (18 months to 3 years and 3 to 6 years)
- Primary education
- After-school activities, workshops and camps
The school takes part in Erasmus projects with teacher exchanges and language immersion camps, and holds a certification as an SDG (ODS) school. Meals come from organic catering with fresh, seasonal food.
