The Escola Oficial de Idiomas (EOI) de Vigo is a public official language school in Vigo (Galicia), part of the Galician regional education system. It began teaching in the 1988-89 academic year. The main building is at Avenida Martínez Garrido 17, and the school has six sections in nearby towns (Cangas, Coia, Nigrán, Ponteareas, Redondela and Tui). According to the school, it has more than 6,000 students.
Nine languages are taught at the main site: German, Chinese, Spanish for foreigners, French, Galician, English, Italian, Portuguese and Japanese. The Spanish for foreigners department (español para estranxeiros) teaches levels from A2 to C1 (A2, B1, B2 and C1 in 2026-27), using the Aula Plus series and C de C1. Official courses are face-to-face, with 120 certified hours per course, and lead to official certificates aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference. Spanish is taught only at the main site, not in the sections.
New students pre-register and wait for the allocation of places before enrolling. Learners who already speak Spanish can start at a higher course through recognised certificates or a placement test (proba de clasificación), which the Spanish department holds several times a year. Foreign students need an NIE. The department also organises cultural activities such as a reading club and city outings.
