Escuela Superior de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales
Higher education centre in Madrid, Spain
The Escuela Superior de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales (ESCRBC) in Madrid trains conservator-restorers of cultural heritage. The school describes itself as the longest-established centre for this training in Spain, with almost five decades of experience teaching the corresponding official qualification. Its studies belong to the Comunidad de Madrid's higher education system for the arts (Espacio Madrileño de Enseñanza Superior).
The main programme is the Grado en Enseñanzas Artísticas Superiores de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales, regulated nationally by Royal Decree 635/2010; the current curriculum has applied since the 2010-11 academic year. Students work with real objects from the first years, and the last two years of the degree are devoted to specialisation. According to the school, its graduates work in Spain's main cultural institutions, either independently or in multidisciplinary teams.
Since 2016-17 the school has also offered the Máster en Enseñanzas Artísticas en Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales en Europa (MECES level 3 / EQF level 7), open to graduates in conservation-restoration. An adaptation course for holders of the school's earlier qualification has been offered since 2013.
Admission to the degree is through an entrance test (prueba específica); applications are handled through the Comunidad de Madrid's RAÍCES platform.
