The Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Valencia (ESAD València) is a public school of higher education in drama in Valencia. According to the school, it is the only higher education centre for drama studies in the Valencian Community. Its aim is to give future theatre professionals technical and artistic training.
Students work towards the Título Superior en Arte Dramático in one of three specialities:
- Interpretación Textual (acting)
- Dirección Escénica y Dramaturgia (stage directing and playwriting)
- Escenografía (stage design), offered since 2015-16
The studies run over four years and end with a final project (Trabajo de Fin de Grado); the school states that they are equivalent to a university degree. Acting graduates can work as actors in theatre, radio, film and television, in dubbing and presenting, or in teaching and research. Classes are small, with a teacher-student ratio of one to twelve in practical subjects and one to twenty-four in theory-practical subjects, so applicants are selected through entrance tests (pruebas específicas de acceso). Students also take part in lectures, round tables, meetings with professionals, courses and performances. The ESAD holds the Erasmus Charter for 2021-2027 and publishes a course catalogue in English for incoming exchange students in acting, stage directing and stage design.
