Estudios Norteamericanos-Instituto Franklin de Investigación-University of Alcala

The Instituto Franklin-UAH (Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Estudios Norteamericanos "Benjamin Franklin") is a research institute of the Universidad de Alcalá, housed in the Colegio de Trinitarios in Alcalá de Henares, in the Madrid region. Founded in 1987, it works in research and postgraduate teaching in American Studies and bilingual education, and describes itself as the only university institute for research on North America in Spain. Its main research lines are Hispanics in the USA, bilingual education, and North American culture and society, and it publishes the journals REDEN and Camino Real.

The institute receives around 600 international students a year. Its teaching includes:

• Study Abroad in Spain, a university programme for international students: four subjects (12 credits) per autumn or spring semester, and summer sessions in June and July
• Teach & Learn in Spain, one-year master's programmes (September to June, 60 ECTS credits) for native or near-native English speakers
• A master's programme in American Studies
• Doctoral training in American Studies

Teach & Learn students work as language assistants in schools in the Community of Madrid while they study, and receive a monthly allowance. These programmes are lifelong-learning master's degrees (máster de formación permanente) accredited by the Universidad de Alcalá, taught in blended or online mode.
