Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech) is a research university in Melbourne, on Florida's Space Coast, close to the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River Lagoon. It was founded in 1958 as Brevard Engineering College, a night school for the early staff of the US space programme, and has its main campus in Melbourne plus sites in Orlando, at the Spaceport and at Patrick Space Force Base.
Florida Tech focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and offers associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, many also online. Main areas include:
- Engineering, including aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil, mechanical and ocean engineering
- Aeronautics and aviation, including flight training and air traffic control
- Computing and cybersecurity
- Marine biology, oceanography, meteorology and space sciences
- Business, psychology and behaviour analysis, and communication
About one third of the on-campus undergraduate student body is international. Applications are free through the university application or the Common Application, admission is rolling, and international applicants are automatically considered for select scholarships. Campus housing ranges from traditional dorms to five-bedroom apartments.

International first-year and transfer applicants apply free of charge through the university application or the Common Application. Admission is rolling, but F-1 applicants should respect the I-20 deadlines (1 July for fall entry, 1 November for spring entry).
- First-year: transcripts from each year of secondary school, predicted or preliminary exam results, and English translations where needed
- Transfer: university transcripts and the final secondary school certificate
- Optional: SAT, ACT or CLT scores, personal essay, recommendation letter
- Proof of English proficiency, required for enrolment
A NACES evaluation is requested only in some cases.
International students are eligible for select Florida Tech scholarships and grants and are considered automatically upon admission. They are not eligible for need-based aid unless they qualify as eligible non-citizens through the FAFSA. F-1 students may work on campus up to 20 hours a week from their first semester.
On-campus housing is organised mainly into first-year and upper-year communities, with options from traditional dorms and single-bedroom or studio apartments to five-bedroom apartments with full kitchens and laundry. Living Learning Communities connect residents with faculty and staff. Housing for graduate and transfer students is limited; the university works with College Pads to help them find off-campus rentals.
