Gran Canaria School of Languages

The Gran Canaria School of Languages is a Spanish language school in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria that has taught Spanish to foreign students since 1964. It is located at Calle Doctor Grau Bassas 27 and is a member of FECEI, the Spanish Federation of Language Teaching Centres. Since 1986 its courses have been recognised for Bildungsurlaub (educational leave) by the German states of Hamburg and Hesse, and later by others.
Group courses run all year at levels A1 to B2, with 20 lessons of 50 minutes a week (Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 13:00) and a maximum of 12 students per group; C1 and C2 are taught in private or duo lessons. Courses can be booked from one week. All classes are in Spanish, taught by native teachers with degrees in Spanish philology or linguistics, using the school's own method, Aprendo español. Options include:
- Spanish Course 20, 25 or 30 (group lessons plus optional private lessons)
- Private and duo (semi-private) courses
- DELE and DIE exam preparation
- Spanish for business, tourism, health services or cabin crew (private lessons)
- Online self-study course
The school charges no registration fee. Its courses are non-regulated education and cannot be used to apply for a study visa. It offers self-catering accommodation in studio apartments, an apartment and twin rooms in a shared flat.

Programmes

Admission
Minimum age is 16.
All payments must be made in advance.
Language requirements
- Absolute beginners: no knowledge required.
- Other levels: corresponding knowledge.
A placement test (oral and written) will be made before starting the course.

Special offer:
- 4 weeks Standard Course + single room: 1374 €.
- 4 weeks Standard Course + shared room: 1227 €.

- Additional week: 150 €.
- Private tuition in the morning: 330 €/10 hours.
- Private tuition in the afternoon: 300 €/10 hours.
- Semiprivate tuition (2 tudents): 420 €/10 hours.
- 10 Extra lessons with teacher, for students already in a group: 235 €.
- 10 Extra lessons with computer course under the supervision of a teacher, levels A1 and A2: 65 €.
- Tuition material and certificates/diplomas are not included in the tuition price.
Accommodation:
Prices are per week. All rooms with private bathroom. Half-board included.
- Single room in “Best Residence”: 300 €.
- Single room in “Plus Residence”: 350 €.
- Shared room in “Best Residence”: 200 €.
- Shared room in “Plus Residence”: 210 €.
- Two coming together in “Best Residence”: 360 €.

Scholarships and financial aid
Housing
The school offers three self-catering options near the beach and within walking distance of the school:
- Studio apartments renovated in 2019, for one or two people, with kitchen, private bathroom and free WiFi, 50 metres from the beach and a 10-minute walk from the school
- An apartment with a separate bedroom for up to two people
- Two twin rooms with private bathrooms in a shared flat, with shared kitchen and living area
Bookings are for full weeks from Saturday to Saturday, with or without weekly cleaning; bed linen and towels are included. Rooms can be booked by students aged 18 or over, or by minors with their parents or legal guardians. An airport pick-up can be arranged.
Services and activities
- Intensive group-courses in General Spanish, private or semiprivate tuition, preparation to the DELE and DIE examinations, Spanish for specific purposes.
- Accommodation in single or sjared/double rooms with private bathroom, satelite TV, free internet access, cleaning of the room, washing of personal clothing and half-board.
- Weekly excursions to places of interest on the island, visits to folk dances, museums, film discussions, lectures, dinners, outings.
- Sports activities, surf courses, scuba diving, trecking, mountain-bike, etc, can be organized on demand.
