Instituto Cultural Idioma (ICI) is a Portuguese language school in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. It is based in a two-storey colonial-style house with a patio and garden in the Barra neighbourhood, close to the Porto da Barra and Farol da Barra beaches. The school is open all year, closing only on national and regional holidays, and new groups start every Monday. All teachers are native Portuguese speakers.
Group courses have 20 sessions of 50 minutes per week, Monday to Friday, with 3 to 8 students. Other options include:
- Combined group and individual (COMBO) courses
- Individual courses, including Portuguese for business
- Evening and Saturday classes
- Online classes via Skype
- Courses for children and teens, and for expatriates
- Pronunciation workshop
- CELPE-Bras exam preparation (from Intermediate II level)
The school has run special programmes for American students funded by FLAS grants and for Germans on Bildungsurlaub. Activities include capoeira, dance, cooking, surfing and canoeing classes, and a language exchange with Brazilians. Accommodation is with host families or in shared apartments with Brazilians, in the Barra and Graça neighbourhoods, no more than 25 minutes' walk from the school.

Programmes
- Group course: 20 sessions of 50 minutes per week, mornings 9:00 to 12:40, 3 to 8 students
- COMBO courses: group classes in the morning plus 1 or 2 individual sessions in the afternoon
- Individual courses: light (2), regular (4) or intensive (6) sessions per day
- Evening and Saturday classes
- Online classes via Skype (minimum 10 sessions)
- Courses for children and teens, and for expatriates
- Pronunciation workshop: 10 sessions over one week
- CELPE-Bras preparation: 2 to 4 weeks, from Intermediate II level
Housing
All accommodation is in single rooms in the Barra and Graça neighbourhoods, no more than 25 minutes' walk from the school, with Wi-Fi and weekly change of towels and bed linen; each place is inspected by a member of staff.
- Host family, with continental breakfast
- Shared apartment with Brazilians or other students, with use of the kitchen (no meals)
- Hotels, guest houses or furnished apartments: the school can provide names
An airport pick-up can be arranged through a partner.
