Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) is an independent, private and exclusively undergraduate university with a residential campus in Bloomington, Illinois. It has approximately 1,600 students and a student-to-faculty ratio of 12:1. It offers more than 80 majors, minors and interdisciplinary options, combining the liberal arts with practical study in fields such as:
- Business
- Nursing
- Fine arts: art, music and theatre arts
- Natural sciences
The International Office advises international students from admission through post-graduate planning. International applicants pay no application fee and need, for example, IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80 or a Duolingo score of 115. Merit scholarships for international students reach up to US$38,000 per year and are renewable for four years. All students must live in university housing for their first three years, in traditional halls, suites or apartments.

Applicants must be 17 by 1 August of the year they start in the fall. Art, music and theatre programmes require a portfolio, audition or interview.
English proficiency can be shown by having English as a first language, by at least 3 years of secondary education in English, or with one of these minimum scores (no older than two years):

University charges for the 2026-27 academic year (full year):

Direct costs total US$75,678; the estimated total cost of attendance, including books, transport and personal expenses, is US$78,348.
Students who are not US citizens or permanent residents can receive merit scholarships of up to US$38,000 per year, renewable for up to four years; all applicants are considered automatically. International students can also submit the CSS PROFILE (preferred date 1 March) to be considered for further IWU-funded scholarships, loans and campus jobs. Admission for international students is need-sensitive.
IWU is a residential campus: all students must live in university housing for their first three years and must be at least 17. Options include traditional residence halls, suite-style halls with individual bedrooms (for sophomores, juniors and seniors) and the Gates at Wesleyan and East Street Apartments (for juniors and seniors). A double room costs US$8,796 for the 2026-27 year.
