Mackdonald Language Academy is an independent, family-run English language school in Kilkenny, a medieval city in the south-east of Ireland. It is accredited by ACELS/QQI, EEI, AGPI and Quality English, and its courses are ACELS/QQI accredited by the Irish Department of Education. The school has more than 20 years of experience and teaches at a year-round school on John's Quay and at a summer centre.

Programmes are aimed at teenagers, adults, school groups and international secondary-school students:

• All-inclusive English summer camps
• English courses for adults at all levels, starting every Monday
• Mini-stay programmes for school groups
• High School Programme in an Irish secondary school, from one month to a full academic year
• Erasmus+ mobility programmes

Adult general classes have a maximum of six students and mini-groups three; lessons last 45 minutes and are taught by TEFL-qualified teachers. Most students live with garda-vetted host families with full board, and for individual bookings each family hosts only one student of each nationality. Adults can also choose a bed and breakfast or a self-catering apartment. Airport transfers from Dublin or Cork can be arranged, and a leisure programme includes cultural activities and full-day excursions.

Adult English courses, 2027 prices: the General Course (20 lessons per week) in a group costs €330 per week. Prices for intensive and mini-group courses, accommodation and airport transfers are in the 2027 price list on the adult courses page. Summer camp dates and fees for summer 2027 are published in a separate price list.

Students usually live with garda-vetted host families, with full board (breakfast, dinner and a packed lunch). Summer camp and mini-stay students share twin rooms as standard, with single rooms on request at extra cost; High School Programme students generally have a single room. For individual bookings each family hosts only one student of each nationality. Many families live within walking distance of the school; otherwise daily transfers are provided. Adult learners can choose a host family (single room, full board), a bed and breakfast or a self-catering apartment.
