Rutgers Preparatory School (Rutgers Prep, RPS) is an independent school in Somerset, New Jersey, for students from age three to grade 12. Its Lower School (age three to grade 5), Middle School (grades 6-8) and Upper School (grades 9-12) share one campus. The school states that it is New Jersey's first independent school and the first independent school to be granted NGO status at the United Nations. It is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, the Council of International Schools and the Network of Complementary Schools.

Rutgers Prep has a programme for international students who want to prepare for college in the United States, and its families come from twelve countries. Lunch is included in tuition for grades 1 to 12, and need-based financial aid is assessed with the Clarity application.

Tuition for the 2026-27 school year:

  • PreK/JK (full day): $21,420
  • Kindergarten to grade 1: $33,390
  • Grades 2-5: $42,600
  • Grades 6-8: $48,020
  • Grades 9-12: $53,590

Tuition includes lunch for grades 1-12 and free before- and after-school care (7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.) for Pre-K to grade 8.

Financial Aid

Rutgers Prep offers need-based tuition assistance. Financial need is assessed with the Clarity application, based on assets, income, expenses and other commitments, and each family contributes what it can. For the 2027-28 school year, the financial aid application and supporting documents are due on 9 January 2027; later applications are considered while funds remain.
