Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU) is a research university in Carbondale, Illinois (United States). It offers more than 200 majors, minors and specialisations, has a student-faculty ratio of 11:1 and over 3,000 acres of hills and forest used for outdoor education. According to the university, it is ranked among the top 5 percent of US higher education institutions for research.
Teaching is organised in colleges of agricultural, life and physical sciences; arts and media; business and analytics; engineering, computing, technology and mathematics; health and human sciences; and liberal arts, plus a School of Education, a Graduate School, Simmons Law School and a School of Medicine. SIU Online offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes entirely online.
International undergraduates apply online through International Admissions (non-refundable application fee of US$40), uploading transcripts translated into English; graduate applicants apply through the Graduate School. Transfer applicants need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. High-achieving new international undergraduates pay an alternative tuition rate equal to the resident rate. The Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) offers English training for students admitted conditionally without a sufficient TOEFL score, and the Center for International Education provides scholarships, tuition awards and support services for international students.

Online bachelor's degrees include business and administration, criminology and criminal justice, cybersecurity technology, early childhood education, electrical engineering technology, hospitality, tourism and event management, and nursing (RN to BSN).
Graduate programmes
Master's and doctoral programmes through the Graduate School, plus professional degrees at Simmons Law School and the School of Medicine. Online graduate options include:

Admission
International undergraduates apply online through International Admissions and pay a non-refundable US$40 fee; graduate applicants apply through the Graduate School. Freshman applicants (fewer than 12 university credit hours) submit secondary school transcripts and any exit examination certificates; transfer applicants with 12 or more credit hours submit all university transcripts and need a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. All transcripts must be translated into English; official originals are required before or on arrival. Applicants must show a financial statement covering one academic year.
Scholarships and financial aid
