The British School of Costa Daurada (BSCD) is a private British school in El Catllar, near Tarragona, formerly known as Jigsaw British School. It follows the British National Curriculum, adapted for an international student body, and takes children from 4 months old through to Sixth Form (ages 16-18), from Early Years to A levels. The school has been inspected by the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS), most recently in December 2025. Secondary studies based on IGCSEs can be homologated to the Spanish ESO through the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Classes have 18 to 22 pupils from Nursery, with a teacher and an assistant in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. Forest School and outdoor learning are part of the timetable, and secondary students do work placements in Years 10 and 12. Extracurricular options include robotics and coding, music and football academies, and the school offers morning and after-school clubs from 7:30 to 18:00. Entry to primary and secondary depends on the pupil's level of English, assessed at interview.

Admission Requirements

Families complete an enquiry form and are invited to an initial interview with the Head of Admissions. Previous school reports, references and an entrance assessment are generally required, and a non-refundable application fee is paid when applying.

  • Early Years: from 16 weeks of age; class placement by stage of development
  • Nursery: age 3 before 1 September; Reception: age 4 before 1 September
  • Key Stage 1: suitable level of English, assessed in two interviews
  • Year 3 and above: spoken and written English assessment
  • Secondary: English assessment, interview with the Head of Secondary and a maths assessment

Language Requirements

From primary onwards, pupils need a suitable level of English, assessed during the admission interviews. Pupils entering Year 3 and above take a spoken and written English assessment, which also shows whether they need language support; secondary applicants are assessed in spoken and written English.
