The Universidad de Panamá is a university in Panama City, created by presidential decree on 29 May 1935. It opened on 7 October 1935 and began teaching the next day with 175 students. Its main campus is in the Bella Vista district of Panama City. According to the university's figures for the first semester of 2026, it offers 367 programmes (193 undergraduate and 174 postgraduate), has 84,089 enrolled undergraduate students and 4,715 lecturers.
Teaching is organised in 19 faculties, among them Business Administration and Accounting, Fine Arts, Law and Political Science, Humanities, Engineering, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry and Psychology. Outside the capital, the university has regional university centres in Azuero, Bocas del Toro, Coclé, Colón, Darién, Los Santos, Panamá Este, Panamá Oeste, San Miguelito and Veraguas, plus extensions in Aguadulce, Arraiján, Ocú, Soná and Tortí.
The admissions office (Dirección General de Admisión) runs separate registration procedures for Panamanian and foreign applicants. The university also has a language centre (Centro de Lenguas) and a virtual campus, UpVirtual.
