The Universidad de Santiago de Chile (Usach) is a university in Santiago, Chile, with its own campus in the Estación Central district. Its origins go back to the Escuela de Artes y Oficios, created by decree on 6 July 1849. In 1947 several schools across Chile became the Universidad Técnica del Estado (UTE), which was renamed Universidad de Santiago de Chile in 1981. According to the university, it has more than 22,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, and its admissions site states seven years of accreditation.

Teaching is organised in eight faculties: Engineering, Humanities, Science, Administration and Economics, Chemistry and Biology, Medical Sciences, Technology, and Law. The academic offer includes:

  • Undergraduate degree programmes
  • 59 postgraduate programmes, including master's degrees and doctorates
  • 355 continuing education programmes, including diplomas and short courses
  • Prosecución de estudios (programmes to update or continue previous studies)

Alongside their degree, students can take language courses and cultural, sports and personal development activities. The university reports more than 320 agreements in over 45 countries. For undergraduate admission it organises practice sessions for the PAES university entrance test.

Fees

Enrolment fees (matrícula) for 2026, in Chilean pesos:

  • Undergraduate: CLP 106,000 per semester
  • Master's and doctorate: CLP 173,888 per semester
  • Continuing education leading to diplomas and postgraduate certificates: CLP 109,000 registration fee, paid once

Students without the Gratuidad benefit pay the enrolment fee at the start of each semester. Tuition (arancel) is charged separately; its amount is not given on this page.
