University of Banja Luka

University, Graduate school in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The University of Banja Luka (UNIBL) is a public university in Banja Luka, in the Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was established on 7 November 1975 and describes itself as the second largest university in the country. It has 16 faculties, the Academy of Arts and the Institute of Genetic Resources, and around 15,000 students, including students from abroad. Most faculties are on two campuses near the Vrbas river and the city centre; the Faculty of Mining is in Prijedor. The university libraries hold more than 200,000 books.

UNIBL offers 66 first-cycle (bachelor's), 64 second-cycle (master's) and 13 third-cycle (doctoral) study programmes. Most follow a 4+1+3 model, and some faculties use a 3+2+3 model. Subjects range from engineering, medicine, law and economics to natural sciences, philology, political science, agriculture, forestry, physical education and the arts.

Admission to a study programme depends on the results of an entrance exam. Foreign students form a separate fee category, and their tuition fees are set by the university's management board. UNIBL has information for incoming exchange students and takes part in Erasmus activities. The 'Nikola Tesla' Student Centre provides dormitory places and cafeterias serving three meals a day.
