Besides degree programmes, UNAM offers short courses and online learning. Its research includes marine and coastal studies at the Sam Nujoma Marine and Coastal Resources Research Centre (SANUMARC), which takes part in a regional graduate network in oceanography. The university has agreements with universities in Finland, the United States, South Africa, Kenya and Germany.
Applications are made online. International students, from SADC countries and elsewhere, need a study permit and visa to study in Namibia; under an agreement with the Ministry of Home Affairs they can apply for the permit during registration at UNAM. The university offers a medical insurance option, and a Senior International Student Support Officer in the Office of the Registrar helps with applications, permits, registration and travel.
