University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is a public state university and a member of the University System of Maryland, founded in 1947 to bring university education to working adults and military servicemembers; its first courses were taught by professors sent to post-war Europe. Today it teaches mainly online, with most programmes available entirely online and some hybrid courses, and it has more than 175 classroom and service locations worldwide, including the overseas divisions UMGC Europe and UMGC Asia for military-affiliated students. Its mailing address is in Adelphi, Maryland.
UMGC offers more than 100 degrees and certificates:
- More than 30 bachelor's degrees and undergraduate certificates
- More than 40 master's degrees and concentrations, and graduate certificates
- Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) and Doctor of Management (DM)
- Fields such as business, cybersecurity, IT and computer science, data analytics, healthcare, education and public safety
The university has open admission policies and rolling admissions with flexible start dates, accepts up to 90 undergraduate transfer credits, and replaces textbooks with no-cost digital materials in nearly every course. Students have access to online advising and lifetime career services.

- Undergraduate certificates from 16 credits (such as computer networking, digital marketing, HR, drones and autonomous systems)
- Associate degrees, available to non-Maryland residents, military and veterans
Subject areas include business and management, IT and computer science, cybersecurity, data analytics, healthcare and science, liberal arts and communication, public safety, and education.
Graduate programmes
More than 50 graduate programmes, mostly online:
- Master of Business Administration (MBA), in about 16 months
- MS in Cybersecurity Technology, Data Analytics and Healthcare Administration
- More than 40 master's degrees and concentrations in total
- Graduate certificates from 12 credits (cloud computing, cybersecurity, project management)
- Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) and Doctor of Management (DM)
Fees
Out-of-state tuition rates (for students who are not Maryland residents) for Summer 2026, Fall 2026, Winter 2027 and Spring 2027:
- Standard undergraduate programmes: US$499 per credit
- Standard graduate programmes: US$659 per credit
- Specialty graduate programmes (including the MBA, cybersecurity and data analytics): US$694 per credit
- Doctoral programmes: US$1,087 per credit
Lower rates apply to Maryland residents and to military servicemembers and their families.
Scholarships and financial aid
UMGC offers more than 100 need-based, merit-based and other scholarships for those who qualify and awarded more than US$21 million in institutional and donor-funded scholarships last year. It also offers an interest-free monthly payment plan, discounts for federal government employees and reduced tuition for the military.
