Westfield State University is a public university in Westfield, Massachusetts, in the United States, founded in 1839 by the educator Horace Mann; it describes itself as the first public coeducational college in the country. Its 256-acre campus lies in the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, 20 minutes from Springfield and about 90 miles west of Boston. The university has about 4,600 students and is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).
Westfield State offers more than 100 undergraduate majors and concentrations and more than 30 graduate programmes, and is known for business, education, criminal justice, psychology, communication and nursing. It also has an honors programme.
International students apply through the Common Application or the university's own application and need TOEFL 79, IELTS 6.5 or Duolingo 110, or the B2 level of the International Language Institute in Northampton. The International Programs Office handles the I-20 for the F-1 student visa. The campus has nine residence halls, four of them apartment-style complexes, and about 60% of full-time undergraduates live on campus.
