Norwegian Language and Culture is usually offered as a one-year intensive course, aimed at students who wish to enter a Norwegian university. No prior skills in Norwegian language are required to enter such a program. This course is typically offered with the purpose not only to equip students with good communication skills in Norwegian, but also help them adapt and adjust to Norwegian society. Subjects included in the program most often include Norwegian Language – learning grammatical concepts, writing, reading, pronunciation, and dialogue formation; and Social Studies/Culture – which teaches students about the cultural and social traits of the region, helping them adapt to the new environment. Teaching methods include lectures, group work, practice, and home assignments. Assessment is usually based on written and oral examinations.
