The American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) is a medical school whose main campus is in Cupecoy, Sint Maarten. It is accredited by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM), the accreditor used by St. Maarten, and according to the school has been training doctors for over 45 years. AUC graduates are eligible to seek licensure in all 50 US states, Canada and Puerto Rico.
- Four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme: medical sciences on the Sint Maarten campus, then clinical rotations at affiliated hospitals in the US or UK
- UK Track MD for non-US citizens, with study in Preston, England
- Six-year MD with dual enrolment and a BSc (Hons) in Medical Sciences
New classes start in January, May and September, and applications are accepted all year. Applicants need a bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline; there is no minimum GPA, and MCAT scores of 490 or higher are considered competitive. The school reports a 6:1 student-to-faculty ratio. Students can live in furnished on-campus apartments or in nearby off-campus apartments served by a shuttle. AUC takes part in the US Federal Direct Loan Program and offers merit- and need-based scholarships.

Admission
The MD programme is open to applicants with a first degree (at least a bachelor's or equivalent) in any discipline from an accredited university; a science focus is preferred but not required. There is no minimum GPA, and MCAT scores of 490 or higher are considered competitive. Admission is holistic and also considers maturity, judgement, adaptability, volunteer work and life experience.
Applicants submit the AUC application or upload an existing AMCAS, AACOMAS, TMDSAS or OMSAS application, then send the required documents and transcripts. Applications are accepted year-round for starts in January, May and September.
Fees
Tuition and fees for the 2026-27 academic year, per semester (Sint Maarten MD programme, in US dollars):
- Medical Sciences: tuition US$23,909 (flat rate, 10-21 credits) plus administrative fees of US$6,019
- Clinical Sciences: tuition US$31,275 plus administrative fees of US$4,268
- Health insurance fee (Sint Maarten campus): US$1,657
Other costs include a one-time enrolment reservation fee of US$1,000 and a residence permit fee of US$280 a year. Books and supplies are extra.
Housing
On the Sint Maarten campus, AUC offers furnished on-campus apartments with single or double rooms, private bathrooms, utilities, a gym, laundry facilities and security. Students who prefer to live off campus can get suggestions from AUC housing staff from an approved list of nearby accommodation; according to the school, about 90% of off-campus students live within walking distance. A free daily shuttle runs from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. to housing in Cupecoy and Maho.
