Fairfield University is a Jesuit Catholic university founded in 1942, with its main campus in Fairfield, Connecticut, near the shore of Long Island Sound. It is one of 27 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States. The university also runs the Bellarmine Campus in Bridgeport, Connecticut, which offers two-year associate's degree programmes, and a site in Austin, Texas, for nursing degrees and professional certifications.

Fairfield is a residential campus with approximately 5,000 full-time undergraduates, who live in residence halls, townhouses and apartments; first-year students live on the quad. Undergraduate applications are made through the Common Application, and international undergraduate, graduate and transfer students have their own application requirements.

Admission
First-year undergraduates apply through the Common Application. The university reviews applications holistically and looks beyond grades and test scores. Separate application instructions exist for:

Housing
Most full-time undergraduates live on campus, in residence halls, townhouses and apartment complexes:
- First-year students live in residence halls on the quad
- Upper-year students can choose apartments and townhouses
- Around 400 seniors each year move into off-campus homes on the beach, close to campus
Summer housing is also available, and commuter students are part of the campus community.
