League Academy

Primary and secondary school in Greenville, The United States

League Academy of Communication Arts is a public magnet middle school for grades six to eight in Greenville, South Carolina, and one of more than 20 middle schools in the Greenville County School District. The building dates from 1965; the school was formerly League Junior High School and League Middle School and took its current name in 1995. It has approximately 800 students and around 50 teachers.

Teaching combines a standards-based academic programme with a strong arts focus. Facilities include:

  • Dance, art and drama studios and a chorus room
  • Band and strings rooms with practice studios
  • Business and multimedia video production computer labs
  • An auditorium, which the school says is the only one in a district middle school
  • A gymnasium and athletic fields

The staff includes 14 related and fine arts teachers and a full-time ESOL teacher for students learning English, as well as school counsellors and a magnet coordinator. Admission to the magnet programme is by application, and the school holds an open house to explain the process. In the past the school has been recognised as a National Blue Ribbon School.
