Lynfield College

Primary and secondary school in Mt Roskill, New Zealand

Lynfield College is a co-educational secondary school in Mt Roskill, Auckland, New Zealand, at 191 White Swan Road. It was established in 1958 and can accommodate more than 1,900 day students. Admission of local students is governed by an enrolment scheme approved by the Ministry of Education, with a home zone around the school.

The college teaches Years 9 to 13. Its flexible senior course structure lets students take subjects at more than one level, and most students leave with NCEA Level 2 or 3 qualifications. The curriculum covers the arts, health and physical education, languages, mathematics, science, humanities and commerce, and technology subjects such as digital technologies, engineering, hospitality and early childhood education. Languages include Te Reo Māori, German, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, and ESOL is offered. Facilities include an arts block with a performing arts centre and a sports centre with two gyms.

The international programme hosts overseas students and runs sister-city exchanges with Japan and China. International students live either with a parent, who may apply for a guardian visitor visa, or with a homestay family approved by the college. International fees are published each year in New Zealand dollars.

Housing

International students live either with their mother or father, who may apply for a Guardian Visitor Visa, or with a homestay family approved by Lynfield College. Host families usually live locally or a short bus ride away and provide three meals a day, a private bedroom, Wi-Fi and laundry facilities. Students apply for homestay with a form included in their study application. All host families are interviewed, police checked and visited regularly.
