Prague Film School

Vocational school in Prague, Czech Republic

Prague Film School (PFS) is an international film school in the historic centre of Prague, Czech Republic, that trains aspiring filmmakers and actors to become film professionals. All programmes are taught in English. Up to 100 filmmakers enrol each year, and an average class brings together students from more than 30 countries. The school is open to applicants of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds, who are assessed on merit and creative potential; production experience is welcome but not required.

Studies are intensive and practical: students spend 6-8 hours a day in class, and each student in the year programme can make 4-5 films of their own and work on up to 30 other productions. Most students shoot with the school's RED, ARRI, Blackmagic and Sony cameras. The school offers housing in shared flats in the city centre, where each student has a private room.

Admission

Applications are submitted through the school's online application portal. Applicants to semester and year programmes answer two essay questions on the application form and send a sample creative portfolio; two letters of recommendation are encouraged. Applicants are assessed on merit and creative potential, and production experience is not required. Decisions are sent 10-21 days after the application deadline. Applicants from outside Europe and North America are advised to apply at least four months before the programme starts so that their student visa is issued in time.

  • Programmes starting in spring 2027 (January 2027): 27 September 2026
  • Programmes starting in September 2027: 13 December 2026
  • Summer 2027 workshops: applications are reviewed weekly

Scholarships and financial aid

Students may be eligible for government grants or loans through their national ministry of education. According to the school, the Icelandic and Swedish ministries of education have approved Prague Film School programmes for grant or loan assistance.

Housing

Students can choose school housing in shared flats or find accommodation on their own. In the school flats each student has a private bedroom and shares the kitchen, bathroom and common areas with other PFS students. The flats are furnished, have an internet connection and are in the city centre, 5-30 minutes from the school on foot or by public transport. Housing fees are listed on the application form. There is no meal plan; the school has a small café.
