Romanian-American University

The Romanian-American University (Universitatea Româno-Americană, RAU) is a private university in Bucharest, Romania, founded in 1991 and accredited by law in 2002. It is part of the Romanian national education system and received the “High confidence” rating from the quality agency ARACIS in 2010. Despite its name, it is an independent institution and is not affiliated with American University. The main campus is at Bulevardul Expoziției 1B, Sector 1.

RAU has schools of International Business, Finance and Accounting, Computer Science for Business Management, Management-Marketing, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Law, Physical Education and Sport, Psychology and Educational Sciences, Medical Sciences and Architecture. It offers bachelor's and master's programmes and a foundation year; several programmes are taught in Romanian or entirely in English.

Dual degree programmes are run with Northwood University and St. Francis College in the United States, the University of York Europe Campus and the University of Siena. The university reports more than 330 bilateral agreements with international universities, students from more than 50 nationalities and more than 50,000 alumni, and it takes part in Erasmus+. On-campus housing is available, and the website gives visa and pre-arrival information for international students.

Bachelor's programmes include, among others:

  • International Business, and Finance and Accounting (taught in Romanian or in English)
  • Psychology
  • General Nursing (four years)
  • Architecture, taught in English: six-year integrated bachelor's and master's programme, with an optional dual degree with NewSchool of Architecture & Design (USA)
  • Dual degrees: Business Studies (Marketing) with the University of York Europe Campus; Computer Science for Economics and International Business with Northwood University or St. Francis College (USA)

US dual-degree students complete one to one and a half years in the United States. For Romanian-taught programmes, 20% of places are tuition-free.

Graduate programmes

Several RAU schools, including International Business, Finance and Accounting, and Physical Education, Sport and Kinesiotherapy, offer master's programmes, some of them taught in English. Dual degree master's programmes:

  • International Economic Relations and European Union Studies, with the University of York Europe Campus
  • Finance, with the University of Siena (Italy)
