St. Julian's School

St. Julian's School is a British international school for children aged 3 to 18 in Carcavelos, in Greater Lisbon, Portugal, between Carcavelos beach and Lisbon. Founded in 1932, it is a not-for-profit school whose campus is centred on an 18th-century palace with gardens, woodland and sports facilities. Its community includes Portuguese and international families of more than 60 nationalities.

- Secondary (ages 11-18): National Curriculum for England leading to IGCSEs
- IB Diploma Programme and IB Career-related Programme in Years 12 and 13
- Bilingual Section (ages 6-14), combining the Portuguese National Curriculum with joint classes alongside the British Section and leading to IGCSEs and the IB
Activities include sports such as surf, rugby, football and cricket, Forest School for younger children, music, drama, Model United Nations and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Admission involves registering interest, a school tour, a formal application, an interview (with an assessment from Year 4 upwards) and a decision by the Head. Most new students start in September, and few places usually remain after March.

Admission

- Online application form and a one-time, non-refundable €250 application fee
- Compulsory interview; children applying for Year 4 and above also take an admissions assessment
- Decision by the Head on the advice of the Admissions Committee
The year group is determined by date of birth. Full year groups have a waiting list, and applications for the final years of IGCSE or the IB programmes are generally not accepted. Students from the Portuguese system entering Year 11 after 9º ano need a final average of at least 3.75.
