The University of California San Diego (UC San Diego) is a public research university in La Jolla, California, and part of the University of California (UC) system. Its campus covers 1,200 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and total enrolment was 45,087 students as of fall 2026. According to the university, it was ranked 4th among U.S. public universities and 20th worldwide in the 2026 Academic Ranking of World Universities. Research funding reached $1.7 billion in the 2024-25 fiscal year, and 16 Nobel laureates have taught there.
UC San Diego admits first-year and transfer undergraduates from California and abroad, and offers graduate and professional degrees through its schools, including:
