York University and International Students

Just like Canada itself, York University thrives on its multiculturalism, which is why the institution strongly encourages its students to take advantage of its various international activities, including exchange programs through its international partners.  York University also encourages international students from around the world to consider studying at its campus, promising a truly multicultural, Canadian and interdisciplinary experience.

York International is the central international education office of York University. It develops and administers student mobility programs; provides programs and services for international students; and designs and coordinates co-curricular activities that internationalize the York community. The principal priority of York International is to provide leadership and a coherent vision to all international activities at York University.

International Student Entrance Requirements

For students hailing from most countries around the world, York University considers the same academic preparation as is required for university entrance in their home country: (usually) successful graduation from an academic secondary school program or its equivalent.

Students may also have to meet some faculty-specific requirements (available for view on the school’s website), since some programs offered by certain faculties have higher averages or have supplementary procedures for admission.

Because most programs are instructed in English at York University, students will have to demonstrate at least a basic proficiency in that language prior to admission into most programs. For students who may need some extra assistance in meeting this requirement, the York University’s English Language Institute (YUELI) is the ideal place to improve English language skills for university entrance and/or professional advancement.

Important to keep in mind is that York University is a highly selective university; therefore, meeting the minimum admission requirements and deadline dates is not a guarantee of admission. Only the most qualified candidates will be considered.
