Yes, Honorlock, but not by directly accessing your phone; instead, it uses AI, browser monitoring (like Apple Handoff), and "honeypot" decoy websites to detect when you're using a secondary device like a phone or smartwatch to search for answers during an exam. It flags suspicious activity, like looking down or using keywords, for human review, though it can't see inside your phone or network.

Will Honorlock detect my phone?

Honorlock does not scan or monitor a student's device or network or monitor data from other devices connected to the network. During the exam, Honorlock can detect secondary devices, such as phones.

Can Honorlock detect phones without a camera?

No, Honorlock does not scan other devices on your network, such as phones and tablets. We have a patented process for detecting when a test taker attempts to search the internet for exam content, which involves filtering web content and recognizing exam questions from the Learning Management System (LMS).

What happens if you use your phone during an Honorlock proctored exam?

No Restroom Breaks: Do not leave the room or take your laptop into the restroom. Be Polite: Treat the proctor respectfully – you are being recorded. No smoking or vaping: This is not allowed during the exam. Phone Rules: Your mobile phone should be arms length away from you during testing.

What gets you flagged on Honorlock?

Honorlock's AI flags behaviors such as being out of view of the camera for an extended period of time, accessing unauthorized websites, and speaking with another person in the room. It is up to the instructor to review these flags to determine if any academic misconduct occurs.

Can Honorlock detect Apple handoff?

Apple Hand-Off Detection detects the presence of the Apple Handoff Icon & proctors observe the session, without intervening, to determine if a phone is present and being used inappropriately.

Can Honorlock just record your screen?

Honorlock will record your exam session by webcam, as well as record your screen. Honorlock also has an integrity algorithm that can detect search-engine use, so please do not attempt to search for answers. Once you submit your exam, your session ends and your exam attempt is noted in Canvas.

Does Honorlock always have the camera on?

Yes and no. Your webcam is recording you during your test, but no one is watching your exam in real time. We use AI technology to monitor your session, and, if it senses that something is wrong, it will trigger a live proctor pop in.

Do professors check Honorlock recordings?

We use secure encrypted protocols to save and view all test taker assets. Honorlock's certified proctors and exam administrators can review test session videos until they are deleted based on the organization's retention policy or after 12 months.

What can Honorlock see on your screen?

Honorlock works within your web browser while taking an assessment in Canvas to observe behavior which may include recording of video, audio, screen activity, navigation or similar activities.

Can Honorlock detect Cluely?

Honorlock's proctoring platform can block Cluely and other AI by: Block Unauthorized Applications: Prevents Cluely and any other unauthorized tools from being launched during certification exams, interviews, presentations, etc.

Can you do Honorlock on an iPad?

Honorlock is a Chrome extension for use with Chrome or other browsers as allowed, with the exception of Safari. Honorlock cannot be used on ipads. Refer to the Honorlock Student Resources for more info.

How to disable Apple handoff detection?

Handoff is on by default. To disable it, go to the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, tap General, then turn off Enable Handoff.

Can Honorlock detect chat GPT on my phone?

What if the student is speaking out loud to themselves? Honorlock delivers voice detection that can reduce false flags and allows students to read questions out loud during the exam without being flagged.

Does Honorlock look at your eyes?

Yes, Honorlock uses AI and webcam analysis to track eye movement and other behaviors, flagging instances where your eyes move away from the screen or look down (like at a phone) for your instructor to review as potential cheating, though the company states it uses facial detection, not facial identification. This eye-tracking, alongside other features like background noise monitoring and screen recording, helps detect suspicious activity during online exams, leading to flags for instructor review.
