You generally cannot talk to yourself in Honorlock because its AI-powered voice detection flags audible speech, which can trigger a human proctor to intervene, even though it's designed to allow reading questions aloud and reduce false positives from normal sounds like sneezing. While some students get stressed and talk to themselves, Honorlock's system is sensitive to sustained talking, and instructors review flagged sessions, meaning you could still get flagged for academic misconduct.

Handheld Calculator Indicates students can use a handheld calculator but not the calculator on their cell phone. Hats Allowed Permits exam takers to wear a baseball hat or hoodie on their head during the assessment. Note: Honorlock will always allow exam takers to wear religious head coverings during assessments.

Can I listen to music while using Honorlock?

No music, television shows, movies, or podcasts should be playing in the background. No persons other than the test taker should be in the testing environment. The presence of others will be detected by Honorlock and will generate a report of suspicious activity.

Can Honorlock hear your voice?

How is voice detection being accomplished? Since audio is already recorded during each session, Honorlock is now transcribing the audio, in real-time, as the exam is in progress. A transcript will be created, for each session, with context as to what is said aloud.

Is someone always watching Honorlock?

Your webcam is recording you during your test, but no one is watching your exam in real time. We use AI technology to monitor your session, and, if it senses that something is wrong, it will trigger a live proctor pop in.

What causes Honorlock to flag you?

Honorlock uses a combination of AI and human reviewers to look for what it calls “testing anomalies.” Some common flags include: Looking away from the screen too often. Talking or whispering. A second voice or noise in the background.

Can I hit my vape during a proctored exam?

No, you generally cannot vape during a proctored exam; most proctoring services and test centers explicitly forbid smoking, vaping, and tobacco products, even for remote exams, viewing them as distractions or security risks, so you should check your specific exam rules but expect it to be prohibited. 

Can Honorlock detect phones without a camera?

Honorlock does not scan home networks or monitor data from any device on the network other than the one used for testing. Secondary devices, such as phones, can be detected, but this is not accomplished by network snooping.

Can you use ChatGPT with Honorlock?

Do professors check Honorlock recordings?

We use secure encrypted protocols to save and view all test taker assets. Honorlock's certified proctors and exam administrators can review test session videos until they are deleted based on the organization's retention policy or after 12 months.

Are restroom breaks allowed in Honorlock?

Currently "Restroom Breaks Allowed" and "Take Exam in Public Area" are the only Student Guideline settings that are tied to Honorlock's artificial intelligence (AI) technology and can be turned on or off.

Does Honorlock flag you for looking away?

All Honorlock exams require that the student remain visible during the entire length of the exam. Looking away, leaning out of sight, or walking away from the computer will likely raise a flag with the Honorlock AI proctoring technology and cause the exam to “pause” until you are back in focus.

Can Honorlock see my keyboard?

Honorlock does not scan your network, your computer, your phone or any other devices on your network. Honorlock has no access to anyone's network or devices, nor could we unless we were given access by the owner or user. Furthermore, Honorlock does not route traffic from your device through our servers in any way.

How do you know if you got caught cheating on Honorlock?

If Honorlock flags your exam, you may receive a notification or a "live pop-in" from a proctor to assess the situation. Remember, a flag doesn't automatically equate to a violation. However, if a proctor deems your behavior to be a violation of the exam guidelines, they may report it to your instructor.
