Does Respondus record you or just your screen?

Respondus can record both your video (via webcam if enabled) and your screen, depending on what your instructor sets up; the base LockDown Browser just locks your screen, while LockDown Browser + Monitor uses a webcam to record you and your screen activity, often with audio, for proctoring. Instructors can choose to use just screen recording (no webcam) or both video and screen/audio.

Does the LockDown Browser also record your screen?

Screen recording is only available for exams that use both LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor. Screen recording is supported for Windows, Mac and Chromebook. Screen recording is not supported for iPad, so any exam that has Webcam+Screen enabled will not produce a screen recording if the student uses an iPad.

Does Respondus always use your camera?

It depends if the teacher enables MONITOR or not. If it requires MONITOR then you'll have to use a webcam, scan your room, show your ID, prove the audio works, etc. and your screen is locked on the exam. But if it's just Respondus Lockdown Browser then it just locks your screen so you can't go to other websites.

How do I know if I'm being recorded on the LockDown Browser?

Once the exam begins, a "Recording" icon will appear at the top right of the screen. Don't attempt to exit the exam until you're finished. Additionally, you won't be able to print, copy, access other applications, or go to other websites during the exam.

Keep in mind that LockDown Browser does not monitor, restrict, or flag student behavior. Therefore, we do not recommend that students be asked to use LockDown Browser when they are taking online quizzes outside of a proctored situation.

How do I know if Respondus LockDown is recording me?
