Most sixth forms are selective to some extent, even those that ask for five GCSE passes. But a comprehensive that requires eight grade 7s (an A grade in old money) is pitching itself far beyond the reaches of most existing pupils. Highgate Hill is nakedly selective. Eton requires a minimum of six GCSEs at grade 7.
