Respondus will record student movements and will automatically flag the exam if a student leaves the view, if their eyes wander, or if another person comes into the screen.

Do professors actually check proctorio?

Students should treat their Proctorio exam just like an exam they would take in the testing center. If any issues are found in a Proctorio exam, a report is sent to the professor to review. If the activity is deemed as any form of academic dishonesty, the Honor Code Office will be notified.

Does the LockDown Browser listen to your audio?

If the Brightspace test requires a LockDown browser, as designated by your instructor, you will not be able to use a standard browser to take your quizzes and exams. The Respondus Monitor will record audio and video of you while you are taking the exam.

Can teachers tell if you don't use the LockDown Browser?

Keep in mind that LockDown Browser does not monitor, restrict, or flag student behavior. Therefore, we do not recommend that students be asked to use LockDown Browser when they are taking online quizzes outside of a proctored situation.

Students are unable to open any browser other than the LockDown browser on the device they are using. This disallows them from searching for answers online while taking the exam. Also, students are not allowed to open other applications unless the professor specifically and selectable permits them to.

Can a LockDown Browser sense other devices?

LockDown Browser® locks down the testing environment, preventing students from accessing other programs or functions on the computer during an exam. It does not detect external device use or verify a test taker's identity.

Can Canvas see if you switch tabs if not proctored?

Similarly, Canvas does not natively detect tab switching during non-proctored quizzes. But with proctoring tools enabled, any attempts by students to switch tabs or browse unauthorized websites can be identified and prevented. Students are locked into the Canvas tab running the online test.

What are the disadvantages of using a browser?

The browser can have some problems interacting with websites - meaning some websites may not be able to be viewed at all - and using too many extensions can cause the software to use up quite a lot of your computer's memory.

To summarize the Lockdown browser is not a high-risk solution. While there are concerns user data being stored by the program while not in use the likelihood of this is low. There is the possibility the software could introduce malicious software to a user's device, but this is unlikely.

Once the exam begins, a "Recording" icon will appear at the top right of the screen. Don't attempt to exit the exam until you're finished. Additionally, you won't be able to print, copy, access other applications, or go to other websites during the exam.

What should you not do in a proctored exam?

In a proctored exam, you should not communicate with others, use your phone, leave the testing area (even for the restroom without permission), talk aloud, have unauthorized materials (notes, other devices), or look away from the screen/camera; avoid actions like taking screenshots, copy/pasting, or using unauthorized resources to prevent flagging by proctors.

What is suspicious behavior on LockDown Browser?

Automated Video Analysis will automatically flag suspicious behavior during an exam. For example, if a student leaves the computer for a bit, or if a different person appears in the webcam recording during an exam, it will get flagged for the instructor.
