Honorlock can see your webcam feed, screen recordings, browser activity (opened tabs, visited websites), and audio during an exam, capturing this data for your instructor to review flagged incidents of potential academic dishonesty, but it generally doesn't access your operating system or other devices beyond detecting their presence. It monitors your desktop for unauthorized applications, searches, and unusual behavior to maintain exam integrity, flagging issues like leaving the screen or using other devices.

Can Honorlock see your entire screen?

Student's webcam will be recorded during the exam session. If this option is enabled and the student webcam feed fails, we will not interrupt their exam session and they will essentially be able to continue unproctored. Student's entire screen will be recorded throughout the exam session.

What does Honorlock do if it detects cheating?

Honorlock uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to monitor your test which means that you aren't constantly being watched. If the AI detects unusual activity – such as another person in the room – it automatically generates a flag and alerts a live virtual proctor.

Will Honorlock detect my phone?

Honorlock does not scan or monitor a student's device or network or monitor data from other devices connected to the network. During the exam, Honorlock can detect secondary devices, such as phones.

What triggers an Honorlock flag?

Honorlock's AI flags behaviors such as being out of view of the camera for an extended period of time, accessing unauthorized websites, and speaking with another person in the room. It is up to the instructor to review these flags to determine if any academic misconduct occurs.

Can Honorlock see browsing history?

Honorlock also has the ability to log the websites you attempt to visit through Chrome while you are taking the exam. If your organization enables this feature, we can record you using your device's webcam and capture your desktop activity during the exam.

Can Honorlock see your texts?

Honorlock does not scan your network, your computer, your phone or any other devices on your network. Honorlock has no access to anyone's network or devices, nor could we unless we were given access by the owner or user. Furthermore, Honorlock does not route traffic from your device through our servers in any way.

Does Honorlock look at your eyes?

Yes, Honorlock uses AI and webcam analysis to track eye movement and other behaviors, flagging instances where your eyes move away from the screen or look down (like at a phone) for your instructor to review as potential cheating, though the company states it uses facial detection, not facial identification. How to tell if a student cheated on a test?

During the test, teachers can see what students are doing on their computers. Also, spending a lot of time on one question and then answering many quickly could be a red flag.

Can I hit my vape during a proctored exam?

No, you generally cannot vape during a proctored exam; most proctoring services and test centers explicitly forbid smoking, vaping, and tobacco products, even for remote exams, viewing them as distractions or security risks, so you should check your specific exam rules but expect it to be prohibited.

Honorlock does not scan home networks or monitor data from any device on the network other than the one used for testing. Secondary devices, such as phones, can be detected, but this is not accomplished by network snooping.

Can Honorlock just record your screen?

Honorlock will record your exam session by webcam, as well as record your screen. Honorlock also has an integrity algorithm that can detect search-engine use, so please do not attempt to search for answers. Once you submit your exam, your session ends and your exam attempt is noted in Canvas.

What are the red flags on Honorlock?

If Honorlock flags your exam, you may receive a notification or a "live pop-in" from a proctor to assess the situation. Remember, a flag doesn't automatically equate to a violation. However, if a proctor deems your behavior to be a violation of the exam guidelines, they may report it to your instructor.

Can Honorlock access your search history?

No, Honorlock's service is designed to collect information only during a proctored exam. This includes data about the websites you visit on your device.

Can Honorlock detect Apple handoff?

Apple Hand-Off Detection detects the presence of the Apple Handoff Icon & proctors observe the session, without intervening, to determine if a phone is present and being used inappropriately.

Can you use ChatGPT with Honorlock?

Honorlock's hybrid proctoring solution prevents the use of ChatGPT using a combination of AI and live proctors.

Can anyone see my search history if I clear it?

Deleting your search history removes it from your device or browser, but not necessarily from the servers of your search engine, ISP, or network administrator. These parties may still retain logs, especially if you're signed in or using an unsecured connection.

Does Honorlock work on incognito mode?

Type Shift+F5 (Windows/Chromebook) or Command+Shift+R (Mac) on your keyboard. Use Honorlock in Incognito Mode. Temporarily Add a Person or Profile to Chrome (which can be deleted afterwards) Disable your other Chrome extensions (Refer to the Honorlock Won't Download/Launch section below)
