Archbishop Spalding High School is a Roman Catholic, co-educational, college-preparatory secondary school on New Cut Road in Severn, Maryland, in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. It was founded in 1963 as a girls' school staffed by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and became co-educational in 1973. It has about 155 full-time teachers and a student-teacher ratio of 16:1.

Catholic life includes over 130 ministries a year, from prayer and faith formation to service and Masses. Applicants to grade 9 submit an online application with school records from grade 6, an academic referral, an essay and a US$100 fee, and must sit the HSPT admissions placement test; transfer applications to grades 10 and 11 are also accepted. Need-based tuition assistance is available through FACTS.

Admission Requirements

Grade 9 applicants submit:

  • Online application for admission, with a student essay and photograph
  • School records from grade 6 to the latest report card
  • Academic referral form
  • US$100 application fee
  • HSPT (admissions placement test) scores

Transfer applicants to grades 10 or 11 submit transcripts for the previous three years and two academic referrals from teachers of major subjects; they are notified in late spring.

Fees

Tuition for the 2026-27 academic year is US$22,950 (the Aquinas Program and Seminar carry an additional fee). Student fees are US$115, or US$455 for seniors. Tuition includes a non-refundable US$500 deposit paid at registration. Tuition can be paid in full or in semi-annual, quarterly or monthly (10-month) instalments.

Financial Aid

Tuition assistance is awarded on the basis of financial need. Families apply online through FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment, with tax documents, and must re-apply every year. The school also offers academic scholarships (eligibility is notified after the HSPT) and leadership and music scholarships, which are applied for with the admission application. Students must keep a minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA to retain any grant or scholarship.
