Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU)

Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) is a national key university in Beijing, under the direct administration of China's Ministry of Education, devoted to teaching Chinese language and culture to students from around the world. It grew out of the Higher Preparatory School for International Students set up in 1962, was renamed Beijing Language Institute in 1964 and took its current English name in 1996. The university states that it attracts nearly 10,000 international students from over 140 countries and regions each year.

BLCU offers 54 bachelor's programmes across 11 areas, from Chinese language, translation and International Chinese Education to international economics and trade and computer science, with bilingual courses in Chinese and English, as well as master's and doctoral programmes. For international students it also offers:

  • Short and long-term Chinese courses, from 4 weeks to 1 year
  • Winter and summer camps and an international summer school
  • Programmes taught in English and dual bachelor's programmes
  • Chinese language and culture courses at its Hainan International College
  • Online Chinese courses through eBLCU.com

The university also has a campus in Kazakhstan.
