ChuShan Private Institute is a private school in Beijing, China, that teaches traditional Chinese culture and language. It was set up in 2009 and works with classic teaching methods and theories. The school describes itself as a family-style private institute. Its teaching is built around Classical Chinese, which it distinguishes from modern vernacular Chinese. According to the school, Classical Chinese is the key to traditional fields such as Chinese medicine, acupuncture, feng shui and tai chi, and to Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism.
The local course (Class I) runs every week in Beijing. The suggested term is three weeks with 12 classroom hours, and each week includes activities linked to traditional festivals. Groups have two to six students, and local Chinese volunteers take part in the activities. A second course (Class II) is arranged on request, and every class can be adapted to the student's learning plan and available time.
