The British International School of Washington (BISW) is a private international school in the Georgetown neighbourhood of Washington, DC, at 2001 Wisconsin Avenue NW. It opened in 1998 and has been part of the Nord Anglia Education group of schools since 2013. The school teaches students aged 2 to 18 in four stages:
- Early Years (ages 2 to 5)
- Primary (ages 5 to 11)
- Lower Secondary (ages 11 to 14)
- Upper Secondary (ages 14 to 18)
The Early Years and Primary School follow British curricula. Secondary students take the IGCSE, and from Year 12 they follow the two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme; the school states that its average IB score is 33. Graduates often go on to higher education in the UK, the US, Europe and Canada.
BISW has about 550 students, with class sizes of 12 to 22 depending on the year group and subject. According to the school, 25% of students come from the UK, 20% from the US, and more than 70 other nationalities are represented. The school is academically non-selective and accepts rolling admissions and mid-year enrolment.

Admission
BISW is academically non-selective and accepts applications throughout the year, including for mid-year entry. The admissions process is:
- Submit an inquiry
- Visit the campus or arrange a virtual meeting
- Optional taster day
- Complete the online application form
- Teacher evaluations, if required for the year group
- Cognitive abilities test, if required
Some year groups also need end-of-year school reports.
Fees
Annual tuition for the 2026-27 school year (US$):
- Pre-Nursery part time: $19,700
- Pre-Nursery full time: $33,890
- Nursery: $37,300
- Primary and Secondary: from $40,070 (Year 1) to $47,930 (Year 12), depending on the year group
Additional 2026-27 fees: application fee $190 (non-refundable), enrolment deposit $2,000 (credited against tuition) and a one-time new enrolment fee of $2,700. Tuition includes lunch up to Year 11 and IGCSE and IB Diploma examination costs.
